Clowning Around

I had an absolutely amazing time creating this 3-D clown in a class taught by the amazing Bronwen Weber. The structure of the cake is made using a system called "cake bones", created by Francois Long and Bronwen Weber. I loved the class and was thrilled to meet Bronwen (she is one of my husbands favourites from all the Food Network Cake challenges).

This cake is 1oo% edible (aside from the internal support structure). The legs and arms are covered in lots of delicious chocolate modeling paste before they are covered in fondant. The "cake" is the torso of the clown.
Please contact me if you are interested in more information about 3-D cakes and pricing. 3-D cakes can be customized to fit your occasion and theme. I will be recreating this cake at Christmas with a 3-D Santa Clause!!!

Julie and Noah

It was my pleasure recently to make the wedding cake for Julie and Noah. I have known the couple for a number of years, so it was an extra special when they asked if I would make their wedding cake. Julie knew exactly what she wanted her cake to look like. She loved the cascading sugar paste roses from a cake I had done previously, although she wanted them white with a little red accent. The cake was luscious lemon with raspberry buttercream.

Gymnast Cake

I was asked to do a "gymnast" figurine for a 8th birthday cake. It turned out to be a bit of a challenge trying to sculpt a gymnastic pose. I opted to try the easiest pose I could find. In the end I was pretty happy with the result, but more importantly Holly and her mum were happy with the cake!!!

Hockey Puck Cake

I had a request for a hockey themed birthday cake for a Toronto Maple Leafs fan. What says hockey more than a giant hockey puck!. In the centre of the puck is the Maple Leaf's Centre Ice logo (or my version of it anyway). The birthday boy (adult really) loved his cake.

Pretty in Pink

This is cake that I made for a Bridal Show at the end of October. I had been wanting to do an all pink wedding cake for some time, so I decided the bridal show was the perfect opportunity. This picture isn't great as I took it with my less than great digital camera, but I still love how it looks. I made pink gumpaste roses and gumpaste fabric to match the fondant. I was really happy with the overall look of the cake. It was simple and elegant...exactly what a pale pink cake should be!

It has been a busy few months. I was just checking through some photos and realized that I have completely forgotten to post a bunch of cakes I have done recently.

This winter wonderland was for a wedding held in a beautiful golf course in Lindsay. I was really excited when the bride said she wanted a snowflake wedding cake as my first wedding cake was a snowflake cake. I am much happier with how this one turned out:)

I am really happy with how my take on the "cherry blossom" cake turned out. I am not sure who the original designer is, but I love all versions of it. The bride requested a small cake with cupcakes on the bottom. I loved the elegance of the simple cake stand with the cupcakes surrounding the cake. It looked very lovely. I almost had a disaster while delivering the cake. I was less than 1 minute away from the reception hall when I took a corner a little too sharply and almost toppled the cake. There was a little mark on the back of the cake (luckily) that I was able to smooth out when I got there!! My heart was beating so fast. I will definitely be avoiding another close call.

The pink Calla Lilly cake was for another small wedding at the end of November. The bride and groom live out West, so the groom's mum was making the plans. Yvonne from the Apple Blossom Flower shop in Orono refered me. It was short notice but I was more than happy to help out.
